Helping Customers Build Their Dream Keyboard with Glorious Boardsmith ⌨️
Boardsmith is an ultra-personalized keyboard customizer built on the Glorious e-commerce website, allowing users to customize their dream keyboards for purchase. I collaborated cross-functionally with developers, designers, and marketing teams to create the Boardsmith UI, which has become a standout feature in Glorious's direct-to-consumer experience.

Over One Billion Possibilities
Through discovery sessions with the product and marketing teams, we discovered that our SKUs could be combined in more than one billion custom combinations. Given the large number of unique product combos, it was important to establish a clear visual hierarchy between individual products and collections. After the UX designer categorized SKUs and created the flow, I worked with the design team to craft a UI that prioritized clarity and ease of use.
A key challenge was accommodating users who were both experienced and new to the world of mechanical keyboards. We incorporated educational touchpoints such as tooltips and concise descriptions at each step to support newcomers.
As we iterated on the design, we recognized the need for intuitive navigation across configuration steps. After testing various methods, we landed on a mobile-first approach incorporating a simple dropdown system to move between steps and start over.
Designed by You.
Made with Glorious.
Glorious Boardsmith increased site sessions and continues to drive users to the Glorious site as a unique DTC experience. Beyond improving the shopping experience, Boardsmith has become a valuable data source, providing insights into customer preferences and trending builds. While the configurator continues to evolve, this project was an exciting opportunity to design something with a unique end-to-end user journey with a focus on personalization.
